EarthCam Celebrates 26 Years

August 30, 2022 -- EarthCam, the global leader in live camera technology content and services, is celebrating 26 years of leadership in imaging this week. For more than a quarter century, EarthCam has continually premiered live camera destinations and produced popular time-lapse videos that engage millions around the world.

This year, EarthCam has launched hundreds of new locations - from Sitka, Alaska, to a St. Thomas mountaintop, to beachfront destinations in Honduras; Marco Island, FL; Seaside, NJ; Cape Hatteras, NC; and The Bahamas. Tourism landmarks like Herald Square, New York and Chicago SkyDeck are now available on multiple mobile, TV and web platforms. EarthCam’s new international live streams include Corsica, France; Cape Town, South Africa; and Kyiv, Ukraine, where the host displayed a hand-drawn heart to the world before the broadcast ceased on February 24th as bombardment of the city began.

EarthCam continued to pioneer new technology in 2022 with the introduction of the world’s first 5G webcam. The #MonumentCam was installed in a secret hole at the top of the Washington Monument and premiered on the Fourth of July for a one of kind view of fireworks over the National Mall.

In the past year, EarthCam released the longest running time-lapse project in the company’s history, documenting twenty years of the rescue, recovery and rebuilding at the World Trade Center site in New York City. The project documented both the historic transformation of downtown Manhattan and embodied the rapid transformation of network camera technology over 20 years.

EarthCam has continued its rapid growth over the last year, reaching 150 million YouTube views and expanding its reach to Broadcast TV audiences by 288%. New time-lapse videos of the construction industry’s most significant projects have contributed to this growth. Paul Smedberg at C.D. Smith Construction states, “It has cut our travel budget for verification for each individual job by at least 75% by having real-time service.”

Viewers enjoyed Renzo Piano’s 45,000 sq. ft. ‘bubble’ rise up over Hollywood’s Miracle Mile in EarthCam’s official time-lapse for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Jeanne Gang's undulating trio of towers transformed the Chicago skyline with the St Regis Chicago. Other notable time-lapse videos include the New York Islanders new home, UBS Arena, the Shanksville Flight 93 National Memorial, the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, Honolulu International Airport Expansion, and Geodis Park – the largest soccer-specific stadium in the US.

The construction industry has embraced many of the new innovations that EarthCam delivered during the last year, including AI object detection and AI data analytics, proven to make construction projects safer, healthier and more secure. With EarthCam’s new AI-powered jobsite camera systems, “The alerts are accurate, and have helped us deter theft on several occasions,” said Michael Jansen from Haynes Construction Company.

In addition to making lives better and safer on construction sites, EarthCam has joined forces with major technology partners to launch milestone products and integrations. New technology partnerships this past year include Bentley, Raken and InEight. In 2022, EarthCam expanded integrations with Procore, Infotech Triax, and Autodesk who recently selected EarthCam as a Construction Cloud Premium Partner.
