EarthCam Introduces Robotic Camera for Hazardous and Combustible Environments

Explosion Protected StreamCam delivers safe 360° monitoring for extreme locations

March 14, 2023 -- EarthCam, the leader in live camera technology, content and services, today announced a new solution for harsh industrial locations, in time for the ConExpo construction show. EarthCam’s Explosion Protected StreamCam is a robotic camera designed for 24/7 monitoring in large-scale, potentially combustible environments, and other hazardous areas. Operational at extreme low and high temperatures, this network camera is certified worldwide, and includes a heavy-duty, sealed enclosure that prevents sparks from igniting vapors, gases, dust, or fibers in the environment.

Ideal for health, safety, and environment (HSE) applications, the Explosion Protected StreamCam is certified for Class I/II/III Div 1 and Zone 1 & 21. Protection against harsh industrial conditions makes the camera ideal for heavy civil, oil, chemical, and liquified natural gas industries. Worldwide certifications for use in hazardous and potentially combustible areas include NEC, CEC, IECEx, ATEX, and more. The camera’s built-in early detection capability provides supplemental smoke and fire detection, complementing the entire site security system with high-quality surveillance capability and detection in the same unit.

The camera completely eliminates blind spots due to the true 360° pan and tilt capabilities – including straight up and straight down below its position. A 32x optical zoom captures outstanding clarity for distant objects, and electronic image stabilization delivers smooth, live-streaming video imagery and minimizes vibrations from heavy machinery or high winds. This enables construction and production processes to be monitored from a safe distance, and minimizes personnel exposure to hazardous or restricted environments. The camera also features a high dynamic range to capture clear, detailed images and video, even with high contrast between dark and light areas of view. A fixed-position version is also available for installations where 360° coverage is not required.

“We’re committed to increasing worker safety and using visual data creatively to reduce risk and deliver high-quality imagery wherever it is needed,” said Brian Cury, founder and CEO of EarthCam. “These new systems enable clients to benefit from EarthCam’s advanced analytics, exceptional image processing and ultra-high-resolution panoramas even in the most extreme, hazardous locations.”

EarthCam’s Control Center has long been the software of choice among international industry leaders like Aggreko, Constellation Energy, Dow, Dominion Energy, General Electric, Hess, NRG and Siemens for smart project documentation, safety and security. EarthCam provides camera rentals, professional installation and reality capture services to make construction project management more efficient with powerful visual data.
