EarthCam Announces the 25 Most Interesting Webcams of 2020

December 15, 2020 -- Live, from Beijing, China... endless panda cuteness. From the Strait of Gibraltar, a Mediterranean sunset. In Topeka Kansas, an ant farm. This year’s list of the top 25 webcams spans eleven countries and offers a variety of 24/7 live streams, from a winter mountain top to an urban coral reef. While some watch birds and squirrels grab a bite at a Bird Buffet in Maine, others prefer to coax carnivores through a 72oz steak dinner via a live chat and camera stream from the Big Texan restaurant in Amarillo, TX.

Hundreds of the world’s live streaming views were nominated for the ‘Top 25 Most Interesting Webcams’, which has been released by EarthCam each year for more than two decades. The list features the most engaging cameras chosen by webcam connoisseurs. During 2020 webcams have become a critical part of every-day life. Virtual travel has grown exponentially and new apps have been introduced such as EarthCamTV 2, which shows trending and featured webcams from around the world, and is now the most popular travel app of the year on Amazon Fire TV.

“The ‘Top 25 Most Interesting Webcams’ has become an EarthCam tradition that highlights the best cameras that have entertained and enlightened people throughout the year.” said Lana Moskalyova, Creative Director at EarthCam, “We’re very thankful to our team of judges, which this year includes top cinematographers who craft some of the most amazing images we see on the big screen.”

EarthCam invited a team of judges to rate the cameras – each bringing a unique perspective – and in some cases using webcams in their work. James Neihouse, ASC, is a cinematographer who has worked on 35 IMAX movies – including those shot in space.  Steven Poster, ASC is the former president of the International Guild of Cinematographers. Also on the team of judges are an Accuweather meteorologist, a middle school teacher who uses webcams for virtual learning, and a camera brand ambassador who hosts a cinematography podcast. See the full list of judges here.

Cameras were chosen based on image quality, uniqueness and overall achievements in webcam technology. Prior year winners are not eligible for this year’s round of ‘Top 25’, but through social media EarthCam fans nominated their all-time ‘people’s choice’ camera. This year, SnowmanCam was the crowd favorite, which features a simple wooden snowman standing in Gaylord, Michigan that is always dressed for the season, and consistently surrounded by the local forest wildlife.
